Carlington Community Chaplaincy

Greetings and welcome to the web site of the Carlington Community Chaplaincy. We have been a Christian presence in the Carlington area of the west end of Ottawa for over 22 years. Having a specific focus and responsibility for those living in social housing, the Chaplaincy continues to work in a multicultural and multifaith environment. By building strong relationships through community work, programs and initiatives we do our best to improve social conditions and to promote justice in our low-income neighborhoods. We do this by assisting people to meet their needs and together we journey with our community to experience change and transformation. As a community-based ministry we are inclusive, celebrate diversity and support people in communicating their gifts and talents to others in our neighborhoods.

The Chaplaincy has developed innovative initiatives that embrace a community-led approach.  We refer to this approach as an “Empowerment and Respect Model to Community Based Ministry”. This approach empowers the community to have a voice to take on a sense of ownership, responsibility and most importantly, to be neighbours helping neighbours.

We are a faith-based nonprofit organization sponsored by the Carlington Social Action Committee and supported by area churches, services providers and community members. I hope you will enjoy reading and learning more about our Chaplaincy and if you feel your inner voice calling you to be a volunteer, a participant in our programs or both, drop by or give us a call. We at the Chaplaincy look forward to hearing from you.

 God Bless,

 Linton Worrall

Linton Worrall Biography

Linton Worrall began his ministry here at the Carlington Community Chaplaincy in September 2002.  He brings with him 30 years experience working in communities across Canada as a social worker, counselor and a chaplain. Linton believes that this variety of experience has strengthened his ability to work in a Community Chaplaincy setting. His area of interest is developing and providing Spiritual/Pastoral care as a community led approach to ministry and feels it must be rooted in social justice and grounded in the voice of the community.

Originally from Miramichi, New Brunswick Linton often identifies himself as an East coaster and takes great pride in this. He resides in Old Ottawa East and is married to Darlene Brewer and lives with two cats, Bully and Snooze who have complete control of their home.

He holds a diploma in Social Service Work (Holland College), Bachelor of Arts (St. Thomas University) and a Master of Divinity (Atlantic School of Theology). Linton enjoys the fine art of cooking Italian cuisine, listening to music, hiking and reading. Linton has a good sense of humour and believes laughter and enjoyment is the basic ingredient for a healthy ministry.
